LAHORE: Advocate General Punjab Ahmed Jamal Sukhera has requested Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar to accept his resignation from the post with immediate effect.

However, Sukhera did not mention any reason for the resignation. “I consider that it is the right time to return to my calling. I hereby resign from the position of AGP,” he said.

In his resignation, he said while addressing the governor, “As advocate general Punjab, I have had the privilege of working with many esteemed personalities of the province. I am indebted to the honourable judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) and the Supreme Court of Pakistan who have been very gracious and kind to me.”

He maintained that he is also indebted to the legal fraternity, the bar councils and bar associations for lending him support during his time in office.  “All these people have helped me have a productive tenure, which has been both professionally and personally enriching for me. I value the many new friendships I made during this time and I am grateful to everyone for the trust placed in me. I will cherish these memories fondly in years to come,” he said.

The law officer also apologised for any shortcomings from his side. “I hope that these will be forgiven,” he said.
